Historisk, legendarisk og bare helt igennem sublim Saint-Julien Cru Classé fra Château Beychevelle, der også kaldes det lille Versailles i Bordeaux grundet slottets størrelse og den imponerende park, der hører til.
Med op til 97 points fra The Wine Cellar Insider får du her muligheden for at erhverve dig en af de helt store årgange fra Château Beychevelle. Selve navnet er afledt af ”baisse voile”, sænkede sejl. Alt efter hvordan man ser på det, så kan det både referere til en respekt for den franske admiral, der i sin tid ejede slottet, eller måske snarere i et (respektløst) forsøg på at snige sig uden om tolden!
Slottet blev i 1855 tildelt status af 4. Cru Classé, men præsterede i mange år under niveau på grund af dårlig drift. Det blev der imidlertid lavet voldsomt om på i 1980’erne, hvor ejerskabet skiftede til den japanske Suntury Group og Societé Generale. Massive investeringer er blevet foretaget og i 2016 stod Beychevelles nye topmoderne vineri endelig færdig. Den kærlige hånd til både markerne og vineriet har naturligvis også afspejlet sig i kvaliteten hos Saint-Julien-slottet, der i topårgangen 2019 har levet et brag af en vin.

"Deep in color, with a floral, blackberry, cedar, cherry, cocoa and tobacco leaf nose. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, elegant and with depth of flavor. There is freshness, a good mid-palate, length, purity and loads of sweet black and dark red fruits with silky tannins in the finish. Made from blending 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc and reaching 13.7% alcohol with a pH of 3.77, the harvest took place September 23 to October 11. 50% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin."

"The 2019 Beychevelle, one of the only wines that I actually tasted at the château with Philippe Blanc prior to lockdown, has a wonderful bouquet with detailed blackberry, briary, cedar and light touches of mocha unfurling from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a discrete marine influence taking over towards the finish. There is a tang of seaweed and brine on the aftertaste. It keeps you coming back for more. This is a great 2019 from Blanc and his team though we must wait to see if it will surpass their 2018."
